ASX Pre-Open Brief 10.03.2025

Last week was a rollercoaster for global markets, with some big moves that investors need to watch. In the U.S., stocks took a hit as Trump slapped 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico—then walked it back until April 2, leaving markets whipsawed. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq both posted their third straight weekly decline as uncertainty sent traders running for cover.

Europe was a different story. Germany shocked the world by finally opening its wallet—€500 billion for defence and infrastructure—which sent the DAX surging nearly 4%. Investors piled into industrials and defence stocks, betting big on a stronger European economy.

Meanwhile, in Asia, China’s market had its best week since September, thanks to new government support for the tech sector. Chinese tech stocks soared, shifting sentiment toward growth in the region. The big takeaway? Investors are starting to rotate capital away from the U.S. and into Europe and Asia, sensing a shift in economic leadership.
